Capture
Capture transfers previously reserved funds from the customer’s card to you. For pre-authorizations, you must submit a separate capture request referencing the original authorization.
The time frame to submit a capture request depends on the card scheme and transaction type:
- Mastercard: up to 30 calendar days from the date of the pre-authorization.
- Visa:
- up to 10 calendar days for CIT (cardholder-initiated transactions)
- up to 5 calendar days for MIT (merchant-initiated transactions)
If a capture is attempted after these time frames, the issuer may decline the capture and a new authorization may be required.
For request parameters and examples, see the Capture section of our API documentation.
Things to note
- Partial capture is supported.
- If you capture an amount lower than the original pre-authorization, the remaining funds are automatically released and cannot be captured later. A new authorization must be submitted for any additional amount.
- Incremental authorizations are currently not supported.
